Narrow the choice by workload
For daily travel, photo imports away from home or short backup windows, assess SSD portability and transfer time. For scheduled desk-side copies of a growing multi-terabyte collection, begin by pricing enough HDD capacity.
Do not remove the second destination from the budget merely to buy the fastest model. A portable SSD and stationary HDD can have different roles, provided you identify the authoritative copy and the backup.
Size the purchase and check the connection
Allow for retained versions, growth and application free-space needs, not just current files. An advertised peak rate does not promise the same performance on your PC or with many small files.
