Separate tasks that do not require payment
Start with Reader if the main tasks are reading, printing and commenting. If you can edit the original Word document and export it again, reconsider whether direct PDF editing alone warrants a subscription.
Pro is more relevant when OCR, release-time redaction or revision comparison is a repeated task. Record the frequency and checking time rather than deciding by the total number of features you are unlikely to use.
Evaluate quality with representative documents
Check whether OCR recognizes the actual text and whether editing preserves line breaks and fonts. Listed support does not guarantee correction-free results on faint scans or complex tables.
- Prepare non-sensitive copies of representative documents
- Edit text and organize pages, then save under a new name
- When evaluating Pro, run OCR and verify names and numbers
- Compare original and saved pages at the same zoom
- Open the result in the recipient’s viewer and test search and printing
Treat redaction as a separate workflow
Distinguish a dark overlay from dedicated redaction. Apply redaction to a test PDF, save a separate copy and check that the removed text cannot be retrieved through search or copying. Keep the original separately and share the verified output.
Include annotations, attachments and document properties in the release check, not just visible pages. Follow the organization’s review procedure for documents with strict sharing requirements.
Check billing frequency and commitment separately
The official comparison includes annual commitments paid monthly. Monthly billing is not necessarily a one-month contract. Check trial expiry, renewal, annual total and cancellation terms in your purchasing region. The linked general cancellation guidance is US-specific; its fees are not presented as Japanese terms.
At review time, Pro 2024 is also advertised separately as a three-year non-recurring license. Do not interpret an upfront payment as unlimited-duration use; compare both the term and the included functions.
