Step-by-step instructions
Check the bottom of the Chrome menu and chrome://management.
Contact the administrator for work/school accounts or supplied devices.
Turn off Show policies with no value set to focus on active values. Record Value and Level as well as policy name.
Open chrome://policy and choose Reload policies.
Filter by the setting that cannot be changed.
Platform means delivery outside Chrome, such as Windows registry/Group Policy or macOS management. Chrome settings cannot override it.
Cloud means account management; Platform means OS policy such as Group Policy.
Enterprise default is a Chrome-provided enterprise default.
Cloud comes from a managed Google account or enrolled browser. Switching profiles does not necessarily remove device-level policy.
Save policy name, value, Source, and Scope for the legitimate administrator.
On a personal PC with no expected manager, inspect recent software and run a security scan.
Bulk registry deletion can damage legitimate management and other software. Establish device and policy ownership before removal.
Check the result
- after Reload policies, confirm Source, Scope, and Level point to the expected manager
