Your case says 20Gbps on the front Type-C. Your motherboard may not agree
PC case listings often give the front interface as USB Type-C 20Gbps. That is a statement about the case. Whether the port reaches that speed depends on the motherboard connector the case's internal cable plugs into. This guide was written on 2026-09-21 after reading official pages for one case and three motherboards. Not one of the three boards describes its front-facing Type-C connector as 20Gbps: one says 5Gbps, two say 10Gbps. The two numbers therefore have to be checked separately. Nothing here was measured, and because none of the pages read describes the physical connector across generations, this guide makes no claim about whether a given case cable will fit a given board.

1. The case's number is a statement about the case
Fractal Design's North product page gives the front interface as 2x USB Type-A 5Gbps, 1x USB Type-C 20Gbps, 1x Audio Jack, 1x Microphone Jack, 1x Power Button. Elsewhere on the same page: Three front USB ports including one USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C with speeds up to 20 Gbps.
The phrase worth noticing is with speeds up to. It says the case supports 20Gbps. It does not say a finished build will run at 20Gbps. A case's front port does nothing until its internal cable is connected to a connector on the motherboard.
This is the same shape as the problem the USB cable guide deals with: the slowest element in the path sets the result. Reading only the case is reading one end of it.
2. The board states the generation of its front-facing connector separately
A motherboard spec page lists internal, front-facing connectors apart from the rear ports. ASUS calls the section Front USB; MSI calls it Internal IO. The generation is printed there.

All three are below the case's 20Gbps. For these three boards, the front Type-C speed was set by the motherboard, not by the case.
3. The four products, side by side
The table reproduces the wording from the official pages. No pairing of this case with any of these three boards produces matching numbers on the front Type-C.
The point is not that one product is better. It is that the case figure and the board figure are two separate things to check.

4. What you intend to plug in decides which line to read
Working backwards from the use, rather than from is there a front Type-C, narrows the check to one line.
An external SSD sends you to the speed wording; a phone sends you to the power footnote. Power is stated on some boards, as on the ASUS TUF board here, and simply absent on others. Where it is absent, this guide does not estimate it.

5. What this guide will not conclude
It will not conclude anything about physical connector compatibility. None of the four pages read here states whether the internal front Type-C connector keeps the same form across generations. If you need certainty that a case cable will seat on a given board, check the connector's name and pin count in the board's manual.
It will not quote a measured speed, because nothing here was measured. The finding is narrower: the numbers printed on the case page and the board page do not match.
And the absence of a 20Gbps front connector on these three boards is not evidence that no such board exists. All three are mainstream microATX models; higher tiers were not read. Check the same line on your own shortlist.

If the case says front Type-C 20Gbps, do I get 20Gbps?
That is the case's specification. The front port connects by internal cable to a connector on the motherboard, and the three boards read here describe their front-facing Type-C connector as 5Gbps or 10Gbps. Both numbers need checking.
Which part of a motherboard spec page should I read?
Front USB on ASUS pages, Internal IO on MSI pages. Front-facing internal connectors are listed apart from the rear port list, and a 20Gbps Type-C on the rear panel says nothing about the front-facing entry.
Can I charge a phone from the front Type-C?

Will the case cable fit any motherboard?
