STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

Rocket League cannot connect to Epic Online Services or servers

What to do first

Check service status, time, account sign-in, and the network in that order. Offline training is not proof of an online connection, so verify a feature that actually uses the servers.

This is a general troubleshooting guide, not an announcement of a current outage.

Symptoms

  • Rocket League cannot communicate with Epic Online Services
  • The game cannot sign in to Rocket League servers
  • Online features are unavailable or Error 71 appears

Causes and conditions

Check Epic service availability, the PC clock, account sign-in, and the network separately. A connection error alone does not prove damaged game files or a disabled account.

Before you start

  • Record the full message, failure time and time zone, launcher, and whether the PC uses Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
  • Finish any match before testing. Restart shared home networking equipment only after other users finish their work.

Precautions

  • Do not disable firewalls or security software wholesale. Port forwarding, DNS changes, and account relinking are not the first steps for an unspecified connection failure.
  • This diagnosis does not require unlinking accounts, resetting game data, or deleting saves.
  • Offline training alone cannot establish a successful Epic Online Services connection.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. 01

Match the symptoms to Epic service status

    #

Open Epic Games' official status page and inspect Rocket League, sign-in, and relevant active incidents or maintenance. This article's checked date does not establish the service's current status.

If a matching incident exists, follow its updates and retry after recovery. A normal overall status still does not prove that your particular account or connection is working.

  2. 02

Check the Windows date, time, and time zone

    #

Open Settings > Time & language > Date & time. Check the calendar date and clock, turn on Set time automatically, and verify the time zone. Choose the correct region manually if automatic selection is wrong.

After correcting the clock, close and reopen the game. If the clock remains wrong or settings are managed, address that first. Epic recommends a date-and-time check for Online Services communication errors after privilege checking; it is not a guaranteed fix.

    Check before continuing

A significant clock error is no longer an unresolved part of the diagnosis.

  3. 03

Test the correct account on the official site

    #

Open the official Epic Games Store directly in a browser and check whether you can sign in with the account used by the game. Do not enter passwords or verification codes into outside sites offering an error fix.

If web sign-in fails, record its message. Follow Epic account-support guidance when it explicitly identifies a disabled account. A timeout or general sign-in failure by itself does not establish that the account is disabled.

    Check before continuing

You can distinguish web-account access from a game-only connection failure.

  4. 04

Compare one network condition at a time

    #

If using Wi-Fi, try Ethernet to the same router where practical, then reopen the game. Pause large downloads or streams if you can, keeping other conditions unchanged.

If restarting the router, use its normal power procedure and wait for connectivity to return. Do not press its factory-reset button. Ask the administrator to handle workplace, school, or communal equipment.

    Check before continuing

Record whether wired networking or reduced simultaneous traffic changes the result.

  5. 05

Check the connection after signing in

    #

When convenient, test an online match or another feature that actually reaches the game servers. If connection succeeds but lag or disconnections remain, enable Settings > Interface > Connection Quality Indicators and record the icon and time.

Use server-health, packet-loss, and latency indications as clues. If you still cannot get online at all, skip this check and give Epic Support the original error and earlier comparison results.

Check the result

  • Confirm that the correct account can use an online feature, not just that an error dialog disappeared.
  • Close and reopen the game once and verify connectivity on the same network.
  • Distinguish failure before sign-in from lag or disconnection during a match.

If the problem continues

  • Give Epic Support the clock, status, web-sign-in, and network comparison results. Keep account identifiers and authentication details out of public posts.
  • If launching the game or verifying files is itself failing, use the procedure for that error. Do not delete saved data solely because of a connection error.

Scope of this guide

Troubleshooting guide — General diagnostic guidance based on official documentation. This does not establish a current version-specific incident or promise a fix in every environment.

Frequently asked questions

Will file verification also fix connection errors?

It checks installed game files. It does not necessarily resolve a service outage, an incorrect clock, account access, or network trouble. Identify the failing stage first.

Does a sign-in failure mean my account is disabled?

No. Check sign-in on the official site and read its specific error. Use the account-support route when the message actually identifies account disablement.
